Pets of the Homeless Project
In an effort to give back to the community San Roque Pet Hospital has held two Free Pets of the Homeless Clinics this year, with very successful outcomes! Santa Barbara County alone has roughly 6,000 homeless people, with approximately one in 10 owning a pet. Homeless people often rely on their pets for nonjudgmental, loyal companionship, security and warmth. Dr. Dawson recognizes that we will not see an end to homelessness, so we must do our part to help keep these deserving animals happy and healthy. So far we have provided free treatment and exams for approximately 30 street pets. San Roque Pet Hospital hopes to see this number grow as we continue to make this a regular event in our community. We offer services such as vaccines, flea and tick control, heartworm prevention, rabies certificates, and other routine treatments, as well as free food and treat bags. We hold events quarterly and have a big turnout at each event. We are always taking food and medication donations for the project, call the office if you have further questions regarding our Homeless Pet Project events.
