David Dawson, DVM

In June, 2002, Dr. Dawson purchased San Roque Pet Hospital.  Under his direction and vision, the hospital has been revitalized to offer high quality medicine and exceptional, compassionate care.

Dr. Dawson graduated from University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000.  While in school, Dr. Dawson served as National President of the Student Veterinary Association and received a Fellowship from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation for work with animals in war-torn Bosnia-Herzgovina.

Dr. Dawson has strong interests in dermatology, oncology/chemotherapy, soft-tissue surgery, non-surgical orthopedics and rehabilitation.

Dr. Dawson lives in Santa Barbara with his wife Christine, daughter Kendall, son Dane, and their 2 dogs Freddie & Poundcake. He enjoys surfing, golfing, rugby, soccer, flying, traveling and spending time with his family.

Ann O'Brien Welton, DVM

Dr. O'Brien Welton grew up in Southern California, moving to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB in 1988.  From that point on, she knew this was where she wanted to live.  She attended Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2000.

Dr. O'Brien Welton has always had an interest in non-traditional species, and sought extra training in bird, reptile and even fish medicine while at school.  After graduation, she did an internship at California Animal Hospital in West Los Angeles, getting intensive training in cardiology, internal medicine and ultrasonography.  In 2001 she returned to the Santa Barbara area where she has been a full time practicing veterinarian seeing dogs, cats and small exotic companion animals.

Dr. O'Brien Welton lives in Santa Barbara with her husband Steve, daughter Claire Rose, Darma, a Brussels Griffon, and Pismo, a Boston Terrier.  In her spare time, she is an avid reader, participating in a monthly book club with 8 close friends.  She also enjoys hiking and biking in the Santa Barbara area, and traveling.

Hillary Conant, DVM

Dr. Conant grew up in Santa Cruz, California and graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 1999 with Bachelors Degrees in Environmental Science and Latin American Studies.  She worked as a veterinary assistant in several small animal practices and volunteered with the local Wildlife Care Network.  She spent a year living in Costa Rica, traveled throughout New Zealand and became certified to scuba dive before attending Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in Indiana.

During vet school, Dr. Conant was active in many organizations, including the American Association of Feline Practitioners, the Exotic Animals Club, the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the Association for International Veterinary Medicine and the Humane Society.  She co-hosted Purdue's first pet bird conference and organized the first annual Hope for Homeless Cats, a cat adoption and owner education event.  Because of her love of birds and her desire to learn more about avian medicine and surgery, Dr. Conant completed an externship with Brian Speer at the Medical Center for Birds as well as one with Rhoda Stevenson at the Exotic Bird Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

Following graduation, Dr. Conant completed a 12 month internship at the Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group (VMSG) in Ventura where she received advanced training in canine and feline Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency and Critical Care.

Dr. Conant, her husband, Bryan, and their daughter Gianna Bean live with their 2 dogs, Bailey & Bentley.  In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking/backpacking, kayaking, reading and cooking.  She is excited to be back in Santa Barbara where she enjoys many of the beaches and wilderness areas.

Evelyn Brand, DVM

Dr. Brand grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2000.   She attended the honors college at Washington State University, and was admitted to the accelerated honors veterinary program after her freshman year.  While working on her undergraduate degree, she became very active in the raptor rehabilitation program, where she cared for and trained various birds of prey.  She worked in the exotics ward of the veterinary hospital at WSU throughout her undergraduate and veterinary program, gaining extensive experience with wildlife and exotic pet medicine.   Dr. Brand received her undergraduate degree in Zoology, along with a minor in Spanish, before moving on to vet school.

During vet school, Dr. Brand became the president of the Zoo, Exotics, and Wildlife Club, through which she organized programs to train other veterinary students in these fields.  She was also active in the Canine Club, the Emergency Club, and the student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association.  In addition, she was awarded an NIH Veterinary Summer Research Fellowship to study pneumonia in Bighorn Sheep.

After graduating vet school, Dr. Brand completed a one year rotating specialty internship at California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles.  Through this internship, she received extensive training in canine and feline Cardiology, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Emergency Medicine.

Ever since her internship, Dr. Brand has been working and living here in beautiful Santa Barbara with her husband, Jason, and her three dogs, Jessa, Jake, and Casey.  In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding, rock climbing, and exploring the many hiking trails of Santa Barbara.
